ABBA Reunites For New Recording

AbbaIt only took 35 years of coaxing, but ABBA has decided to reunite, and that means playing together again, onstage.  The performance, however, will be for two songs and in digital format.

The Swedish band, which broke up 1982 after eight studio albums, have recorded two new songs including “I Still Have Faith In You,” and will perform it on a TV special to air on NBC in the U.S. and the BBC in the UK in December, according to Deadline Hollywood. The performance will also be using their avatars because there is an ABBA avatar tour – a virtual reality version of that band vs. holograms – in the works and set to debut next year.

ABOUT: ABBA are estimated to have sold as many as 500 million records,  making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They are also the best-selling band from continental Europe and from outside the English-speaking world. ABBA is the first group from a non-English-speaking country to achieve consistent success in the charts of English-speaking countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States. - Wikipedia

“The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence,” the members, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, said in a statement. “We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and get into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience.

It resulted in two new songs and one of them, I Still Have Faith In You, will be performed by our digital selves … .” The band did actually re-form in 2016 for a private party, Deadline noted. “Abba’s return will be either genius or disaster,” proclaimed The Guardian, “but nothing in between.”

The TV special will be produced by Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment. - CelebrityAccess
