You have to give Spotify credit. The company realized that for the most part artists weren’t utilizing the streaming platform to its fullest, so it created a site just for artists with a series of help videos called The Game Plan so they could take advantage of all the features it has to offer.
The Game Plan is actually an ongoing video series designed to keep artists better informed about what Spotify is capable of. It launched with 10 short videos consisting of:
- How To Read Your Audience
- Engaging Your Audience
- The Follow Button
- Building Your Team
- Promoting Your Work
- Releasing Music
- Getting Your Music Up
- Understanding Your Audience
- Building Your Artist Profile
- What Is Spotify For Artists?
The videos show everything from seeing what playlists you’re being added to, what your fans are into, connecting with your fans, finding your audience and much more. What’s even better is that most videos are short and to the point, hovering around the 3 minute mark or less. They’re bite-size, which many musicians like because sometimes time is tight.
The Spotify For Artists site also contains a News section with articles that cover everything from tips to hiring an attorney to finding a booking agent, a guide for getting your music on the platform, and an FAQ to answer the most popular questions.
Let’s face it, most artists sign up to an aggregator like TuneCore or CD Baby in order to be added to Spotify (that’s the only way for an indie artist to submit to the platform), but then never check the artist features that the streaming service makes available to them.
If you haven’t yet done so, the first thing to do is to claim your profile so you can fully take advantage of all the artist features. This can be done as an artist, or by a manager on behalf of an artist he or she represents.
Below you’ll find an example from the Game Plan videos, this one regarding how to read your Spotify data.
